He was locked down for 18 months, but it’s time for Nick Diaz to be let loose in the Octagon
Nick Diaz has done his time. In his absence there’s been a 170lb-shaped hole in the UFC roster while MMA’s most flammable fighter served his suspension, but it’s about to be filled. If for some reason you’re not already, here are five reasons why you should be excited for the return of one of the sport’s biggest stars.
BIGGER BROTHER
The world was captivated by Nate Diaz’s Conor McGregor-bashing exploits, but his older brother taught him everything he knows. Nick is the original volume-punching, jiu-jitsu stylist and should guarantee excitement, whoever he fights.
HIGH VOLUME
Need further evidence of the thrills in store when the former Strikeforce champion returns? Since returning to the UFC in 2011, each of his fights have averaged more than 200 significant strikes. Are you ready for a war?
DON’T BE SCARED HOMIE!
Diaz’s in-cage mean mugging and uncensored stream-of-consciousness interviews mean he’s sure to elevate the entertainment factor and make the whole of fight week a can’t-miss occasion.
LINE ‘EM UP
Only two of the UFC’s top-10 at 170lb has ever faced him before, meaning there are a wealth of intriguing opponents. We want to see him grapple with Demian Maia, strike with Stephen Thompson and spill blood with Matt Brown.
