Octagon girl Kristie Pearson reveals how a jet-set lifestyle means she often holds pads for husband and UFC lightweight Ross Pearson

Welcome back to Fighters Only, Kristie. What have you been up to?

“Thank you. I’m happy to be back. I’ve been traveling mostly, with work and with Ross. Recently, I’ve been in USA, Australia, Scotland, Germany, Sweden and right now I’m in Portugal catching some sunshine and relaxing.”

What’s it like being married to a professional fighter?

“It has its ups and downs. We live our lives in a cycle of usually four months; two months of Ross’ training camp leading up to the fight, then the fight night, then we have a month off, a month trying to figure out who and where he’s going to fight next and then it starts all over again. The upside is that we both love the sport and both love to travel so we’re doing what we enjoy. The downside is when he’s cutting weight or when we’re working in different countries.”

Do you prefer to sit in the stands or work when Ross fights?

“I get really nervous regardless, but I think it’s better when I’m working because I have something else to focus on like meeting the fans and hanging out with the people I work with. When I’m sitting in the stands by myself I go crazy.”

Does he ever help you out with your training or do you train together?

“My fitness regime tends to be all over the place these days with the travel and everything but I try my best to stick to five days a week – Monday to Friday cardio and weights – and take the weekends off. We train together all the time. Sometimes he holds pads for me to train boxing and Muay Thai. I’ve also held them for him before, but I’m not the greatest pad woman.”

If you could pick any opponent for him to fight who would it be and why?

“Probably lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos because everyone wants to fight the top guy. Also, guys who bring a good fight like Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Eddie Alvarez – they would all be exciting fights to watch.”
