Powerful percentages and show-stopping stats from MMA’s past month

Prior to his UFC 165 title retention against Alexander Gustafsson, Jon Jones had a 100% takedown defense rate. Afterward, it had dropped by 4.2%, courtesy of one successful grounding by the Swede.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones successfully hit just 9% of his takedown attempts against Alex Gustafsson at UFC 165. It’s the lowest rate of all his six UFC title fights.

Female MMA legend Megumi Fujii’s bout at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd in October was her last. It closes out a 26-3 career that started when 26-year-old UFC queen Ronda Rousey was a 17-year-old Olympian.

Maximum Fighting Championship had its fastest KO in its 12 years at MFC 38 in October, when Aaron Gallant knocked out Matt Jelly in seven seconds.

UFC veteran and noted KO artist ‘Big’ Lavar Johnson was knocked out for the first time in nearly 10 years, by Vinicius Queiroz, at Bellator 102. The last time was to fellow Bellator fighter Doug Marshall in January 2004 in Johnson’s debut.

Veteran referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy was the third man for Jon Jones’ and Alexander Gustafsson’s potential ‘Fight of the Year’ at UFC 165. Although that ended in a decision, an average McCarthy-officiated bout lasts eight minutes and 35 seconds.
