‘The Korean Zombie' gets hitched

In case you hadn’t heard, the ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung got married in March. The UFC featherweight brawler took the opportunity to tie the knot while recovering from the separated shoulder he incurred while challenging for José Aldo’s 145lb title in August last year. Not much is known about the UFC featherweight’s new wife other than they have been dating for some time. Apparently it’s common for well-known Koreans not to publicize the name of their spouse or family members.

ESPN presenter Stuart Scott using MMA to fight cancer

ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott uses mixed martial arts training to help him through his cancer treatment. In a New York Times piece on the 21-year ESPN staffer’s battle with the disease, which he was first diagnosed with in 2007 and is currently experiencing his third bout of, Scott says he uses his time on the mats and in the ring to energize himself during chemotherapy. 

Web cartoon series to support MMAliens action figure line

The MMAliens line of hand-painted figures we featured on Knowledge two-and-a-half years ago now has a web-based cartoon series to match. Model creator Aaron Fowler has also directed and animated the violent episodes, which center around the goings-on in the fictional multi-species Intergalactic Fight Federation.  

French MMA prepares to battle ban

Supporters of mixed martial arts in France are bracing themselves to fight against a ban on the sport being voted on by the government in May. Contrary to popular belief, MMA has never been illegal in the country, only not officially supported by the relevant authorities. However, a new bill being pushed through could outlaw the sport. The legislation says MMA “clearly infringes human dignity.”
