Issue 078

August 2011

The veteran former champion reveals his post weigh-in spice secret, a penchant for ice-cold vodka and his love of tiramisu.

Name the leading five must-haves in your ice box?

“Ground Turkey, almond milk, eggs, cheddar cheese, bottle water.”

What do you gorge on?

“Roasted chicken, I’ll eat four roast chickens straight off. I am eating way too much protein right now, but I love it.”

What do you cheat with?

“I don’t believe in cheat days.”

Do you keep anything other than frozen peas in your freezer?

“I keep my Ciroc in the freezer, the other vodka I just keep on the shelf.”

What is your favorite bottled sauce?

“Frank’s Red Hot or Tapatio.”

What desert do you enjoy?

“What don’t I enjoy? That’s one of my problems. Tiramisu is my favorite, but I like cheesecake and chocolate cake. And I love Thin Mints, my daughter is a girl scout so we have 15 boxes in the garage right now I’m avoiding.”

What is your own signature dish?

“Turkey meatballs.”

What is your favorite meal during fight camp?

“Whatever is put in front if me is my favorite! No, steamed broccoli with either roasted chicken or turkey and sweet potatoes.”

What meal do you eat after the weigh-in?

“Usually, two Amstel Lights, a big bowl of chicken pasta, hot, like a Thai chicken pasta, something spicy. I want the cayenne pepper as it counters any inflammation.”

What food do you look forward to most after a fight?

“I don’t change my diet too much even after a fight, but I will always have a tiramisu.”

Which nationality of food is your favorite?

“I like Moroccan food and traditional Thai, not American Thai. Likewise traditional Japanese. Let’s go with Moroccan.”

Anything in your fridge that’s inedible?

“Baking soda. Oh, and some teething rings – for my baby son!”

Milk or beer? I buy both, but I drink neither.
