It’s all about the stink and the longevity for the Brazilian-born multi-time jiu-jitsu world champ and TUF 8 finalist

XTREME COUTURE HANDWRAPS

“People keep telling me to buy new handwraps because they usually stink pretty bad after a whole training camp – I have a ritual where I don’t wash my handwraps for a whole month if the training camp is a month. Or if the training camp’s two months then I don’t wash them for two months.”

RIVAL 16OZ AND 18OZ GLOVES

“Those gloves are from my old sponsor. I really like them. They seem to last forever; I’ve had them since 2008. They still have a lot of padding and I don’t feel like I’m hurting people even though I’m still using them, so they work pretty well. If I have to buy new gloves I’m just going to buy a new pair of those. I keep two different pairs. Usually when I spar a little bit harder is when I’m getting closer to the fight so I use the 18oz gloves so I can hit a little harder. The other ones are 16oz that I use usually to hit pads, or if I’ve got a messed-up knuckle or something I’ll use the 18oz for pads instead.”

HAYABUSA SHIN GUARDS

“Shawn Tompkins gave me those. He said he would give me the full gear, like M-1, but he just gave me the shinpads [laughs]. I like the material and they feel like they fit pretty well too. Not every shinpad makes you feel comfortable, but the Hayabusa ones do.”

XYIENCE SUPPLEMENTS

“In my bag I just carry my pre-workout supplements. With the protein I just leave it at home or in the car because it’s just too big. Both the XNO and NOX-CG3 I use pre-workout. XNO is just for the blood flow and the vessels – I’m not too sure. The NOX-CG3, that’s the dedicated pre-workout product and it actually tastes pretty good.”

FIGHT DENTIST MOUTHPIECE

“This mouth guard is the new one I’ve been using because my previous one I lost after my last fight (submission win over Viktor Nemkov in M-1 in April) because I was so excited about winning after being gassed out and getting beat up for a little bit. I’d recommend Fight Dentist for getting a mouth guard. I wouldn’t recommend the $20 ones because they never fit well and you eventually end up buying three or four anyway, so you spend the same money as you would actually getting a molded mouth guard.”

HOSTILITY SHORTS

“Usually I bring my clothes for my class, because I teach right after my pro practice so I have to just jump out to change my clothes then teach my class. So I always keep my Hostility shorts or whatever else I have to wear in my bag.”

M-1 MMA GLOVES BY GRANT

“M-1 gave me those. They get me free gear for training. They’ve given me just the gloves for now and I’m going to get shinpads and boxing gloves and everything soon.”

HOSTILITY GYMBAG

“At the moment I don’t think Hostility is working with many MMA fighters. They’re about to design my own signature shirt. They’re trying to work with all the promotions and I’m one of their guys. They treat me well.”
