At 22 years of age, the Polish-born Canadian has been fighting since he was 18 and has 14 fights to his name. Training under Shawn Tompkins, Horodecki is a renowned kickboxer with razor-sharp striking but is best known for the relentless pace at which he fights.
Horodecki splits his time between London, Ontario and Las Vegas, Nevada, where he can be found at the Tapout training center alongside his buddies from Team Tompkins.
What kind of music do you like to train to?
When I’m working out I like something that keeps me moving, so hip hop, rap, something with meaning behind it, and I like Euro-house music too. I’m a big fan of house and techno music, trance – I just think it’s really good for in the gym, gets your blood pumping for sure.
What do you like to listen to when you’re chilling?
Pretty much the same thing, but slow it down. I’m pretty open, then I can listen to more rock – I don’t really like listening to rock when I train. I’m not an angry person; I need something to keep me going. I don’t really see this as anger or frustration, it’s a sport right?
Do you have any preferred entrance music?
When we were fighting back in Canada on TKO I always came out to ‘Smash Something’ by Redman. I got it from Ray Sefo, before having met him and trained with him. To this day he’s still one of my favorite fighters, a guy I really look up to in and out of the ring. I try to emulate his fighting style, and he’s a great dude. I’m fortunate to have met the guy and see him on a daily basis.
What kind of iPod do you have?
It’s a couple of years old, it’s a regular iPod, nothing crazy; a black iPod Nano. I’ve had it about two or three years. If the gym I’m at doesn’t have some music playing that I like, I’ll crank my iPod and get in the zone.
What kind of music do you have on your iPod?
I don’t put my own music on my iPod. I’ve got a buddy, a close friend of mine who’s really into computers and we have the same feel for music, but I don’t like to sit there all day and download music.
THE SHUFFLE CHALLENGE
Hit shuffle on your iPod and name the first five songs that come up.
Noz cheating!
1. Mix by DJ Markski
It’s a Polish DJ, the techno music again. It’s a mix of all different songs put into one, it’s nine minutes long, just to get the blood flowing.
2. 10 Lil’ Crips by Snoop Dogg
I’m a big fan of Snoop Dogg, and this album I really liked, one of his later albums. A lot of good songs.
3. Call On Me by Eric Prydz
That’s a song that’s got probably one of the best music videos that ever hit TV, all the ladies in the aerobics class shaking their asses!
4. Simplicity by DJ Klonez
This is a DJ I actually went to high school with. He came from the Ukraine when I was in about Grade 10 and he moved to Canada, he’s a really good DJ. He’s spinning on the larger club-scene in Toronto and internationally.
5. I Smoke I Drink, Roy Jones Jr and The Body Head Bangerz
When Roy Jones Jr had his stint in rap, he came out with some good fighting-type music, really intense, really pump-up stuff. Rampage came out to some Roy Jones Jr. That’s why he’s on my iPod.
