Striking from closed guard bottom


1. Peter has a tight closed guard and is keeping Hywel close. He overhooks the left arm of his opponent.  
2. Keeping a tight grip on the left arm, he places his left hand on Hywel’s face.  
3. Allowing his hand to slip off and across the face, he strikes with his elbow to the face.  

4. Peter starts by going for a kimura on the left arm of his opponent.  
5. When Hywel reacts by posturing up to defend, Peter comes back across sharply with a reverse elbow to the face.  

Upkicks – variation one


1. Hywel is stood in the open guard of Peter
2. Holding one of his opponent’s hands with both of his, Peter cocks his leg back ready to strike.  
3. He can kick to the sternum… 
4. Or kick upwards underneath the chin.   

Upkicks – variation two


1. Peter is stood just outside of Hywel’s guard. Hywel sits up ready to stand or shoot forward.  
2. To stop his opponent coming forward, Hywel kicks with his bottom leg to the shin.  
3. Recovering his leg back, he brings his hips up…
4. And strikes with a right roundhouse to the head.
