Issue 001
March 2005
It seems to be all happening at the moment for the MMA scene in the UK. More and more people seem to be getting in on the act, which is great news for all the promoters out there.
World champion and one of the Brasa Team’s leaders Felipe Costa is currently on a tour around the world giving seminars and tuition — and he will be dropping into the UK on March 13. He started his tour at Pedro Sauer BJJ in Salt Lake City, Utah, in February, eventually arriving in Midland, Texas, where he will be applying the personal training program until March 11, before flying into the Firepower Gym in Walsall (for further information about this event call Mick McCormack on 07866 629670 or e-mail [email protected]). From there he will be moving on to Belgium for two weeks, followed by Holland then Poland. For information about Felipe Costa visit www.brazilianblackbelt.com or e-mail [email protected].
A small number of amateur and semi-professional fighters are required for a dinner-show fighting event that is to be held in Manchester on April 14. Aaron Chatfield is looking for about six fights, including boxing (unlicensed), Thai/kickboxing and MMA (FCFN-style rules). The show will be perfect for new fighters who want the experience of fighting in front of a crowd without the pressures of being in a high-profile name event. The Players’ Club features a three-course meal, fights, a comedian and table dancers. A limited number of True Player VIP tickets are available, giving access to a private after-show party at a lap-dancing club. It is hoped that this will be the first of many events around the North West. For further information e-mail [email protected].
There might be a space for you at UKMMAC/Extreme Fighters 10 if you are an amateur looking for a fight. Lee Johnstone, who is organising the event, has a few positions available for those interested in getting the experience without the full MMA rules. Call him on 07949 068269 for further information.
There’ll be another night of great fighting at Pride & Glory’s Clash in Consett IV, which takes place on April 2. Open to all categories and weights, it is a feeder event where fighters are given the chance to test their skills before fighting in the Pride & Glory professional fights. If you are available for a fight e-mail [email protected] as soon as possible so that matches may be offered — include weight, martial arts background, fight experience and any other relevant information.
Don’t forget that this weekend we have Cage Rage 10, where there will be two titles up for grabs. Champion Jean ‘White Bear’ Silva is taking on Chris ‘The Westside Strangler’ Brennan for the Cage Rage Lightweight Title and Robbie ‘The Flame’ Olivier is fighting Leigh ‘Bulldog’ Remedios for the vacant Cage Rage Featherweight Title. Current Pride Middleweight Champion and 2003 Pride GP Champion Wanderlei Silva will be in London to conduct a seminar at the Wembley Conference Centre between 2pm and 5pm, before Cage Rage 10 starts.
