The Brazilian-Italian Alessio Sakara — who is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter — has been competing in boxing tournaments in Europe during May with impressive results. Sakara was involved in two boxing matches and won both with knockouts. First he KO’d Imre Gergecy in the third round in a contest on May 1 and then on May 14 he KO’d Florian Ilie in round two. Sakara is set to return to the boxing ring on July 1 when he faces Frenchman Jean Marc Monorose.
American Top Team’s Fabiano Scherner returns with a victory.
Fabiano ‘Pega-Leve’ Scherner fought in his second US event and, once again, won. This time Scherner faced-off Sebastian Rodriguez in SportFight 10: Mayhem on May 28. Scherner didn’t have any trouble submitting his opponent by armbar. Fresh from his victory, Scherner is already training hard for his forthcoming match on July 9, to be held, once again, at SportFight in Rose Garden, Portland.

Cyborg answers the ‘extended’ Rea challenge
After a good win by TKO from Antony Rea over the Chute Boxe fighter Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos, Rea challenged all Chute Boxe academy fighters, saying Cyborg wasn’t a tough enough.opponent.
Cyborg replied: “I’m not making excuses over my performance at Cage Rage against Rea. He beat me and that’s all. But I expect a re-match against Rea, the final result will be different. I don’t want money to fight Rea again, it will be a free match for me; I just want to prove that I’m better than him and I can smash his face at
Cage Rage.”
Katel Kubis surprises at Shooto Holland
Kubis is an extraordinary stand up fighter and well-known in Brazil for his fast strikes. However, in his last fight on May 22 in Holland Katel surprised all fans and insiders when he defeated Gidieon Akkermans by armbar. Of course, to reach this position Katel landed a flurry of knee strikes, which fooled Akkermans, followed by a takedown. Katel mounted and sunk an armbar to finish the bout by submission for the first time ever in his career.
Cage Rage 12: The Real Deal
The next edition of Cage Rage scheduled for July 2 will be an exciting card, with five Brazilians competing. All of them are well-known in the Brazilian scene but UK fans will not be familiar with their backgrounds. Two Brazilians are scheduled to meet to contest the vacant Cage Rage World Heavyweight title. Ironically, the lesser-known in Brazil is better known to UK fans: Antonio ‘King Kong’ Silva from Wolfslair Gym is a 3-0 fighter who weighs in at 145kg and stands 195cm high. Silva will face the Nova Uniao heavyweight 2-0-1 fighter Rafael ‘The Earthquake’ Carino. Silva and Carino are due to meet in a super heavyweight match that promises to rock the Octagon at Cage Rage. Carino’s team mate Vitor ‘Shaolin’ Ribeiro will face UFC veteran Gerald ‘The Finishing Machine’ Strebendt in a lightweight match. Shaolin is a multiple Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and submission champion. Shaolin has never shown an interest in competing in the UK but he’s known as the king the of arm-triangle.
Chute Boxe fighters Nilson de Castro and Fabio Piemonte will face Curtis Stout and Cyrille Diabaté respectively. Even though they’re from the same team, they have very different MMA histories: Piemonte has just fought in MMA once against Gilbert Yvel in 1999 (WVC 9), while Nilson is one of Chute Boxe Academy pioneers with around 20 fights under his belt.
