Glover Teixeira was celebrated by his home town after completing his quest to become a UFC world champion.
Teixeira made history as the oldest first-time UFC world champion at the age of 42, with the Brazilian-born fighter submitting Polish champion Jan Blachowicz in their title bout at UFC 267.
It meant that Teixeira’s journey from MMA debutant to UFC world champion finally came to fruition after 7,085 days, and the native of Danbury, Connecticut was hailed by the city upon his return following his championship success.
Teixeira owns and runs a gym, Teixeira MMA and Fitness, in the city, and his contribution to the community, plus his world championship achievements, saw him earn the key to the city.
His gym documented the moment on Instagram with a series of photos, accompanied by a message stating, “What a day?! A parade and the Key to the City!! An amazing tribute to @gloverteixeira, his entire team & all the hard work. Thank you @cityofdanbury for all your support & love!!! #Blessed #TeamTeixeira”
