It was a strong rumour, now it’s confirmed. The main event of this weekend’s UFC on ESPN 24 card will feature a women’s flyweight fight between Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson.

Due to the short-notice nature of this bout, it will take place above both fighters’ natural 115-pound strawweight category, but will still take place over five rounds.

The UFC rushed to make this fight official after the event’s original headliner featuring T.J Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen fell out due to the former suffering a cut in training following an accidental headbutt.

In the co-main event, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will face Alex Morono after Cerrone’s original opponent, Diego Sanchez, fell out with the promotion and was released.

Rodriguez is riding high after her TKO victory over highly-touted compatriot Amanda Ribas in January. The Brazilian also boasts wins over Tecia Torres and Jessica Aguilar during her UFC tenure.

Waterson is also coming off a win. “The Karate Hottie” earned a split decision win over Angela Hill last September to add to her victories in the UFC that has seen her better names such as Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Felice Herrig.
