Glover Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19, meaning he will not be fighting Thiago Santos in a big light heavyweight clash at UFC Fight Night 177 on 12 September as planned.

First reported by Brazilian outlet Combate, the UFC are looking to push the fight back and reschedule for 3 October instead.

If that is to be the case, that means Teixeira and Santos will be competing on the UFC on ESPN 16 card which is set to take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

The co-main event of UFC Fight Night 177 is a contest between Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill. At the time of writing, it has not been confirmed if their fight will move up to become the event’s headline attraction.

Brazil’s Teixeira is riding some momentum going into the fight, with his last outing being a big, dominant win over former title challenger Anthony Smith to make it four victories in a row.

Countryman Santos hasn’t competed since his split decision loss to Jon Jones back at UFC 239. Santos managed to bring the fight to the division’s most dominant champion despite injuring both knees in their fight. Santos hasn’t made an Octagon appearance due to having surgery on both injuries.
