UFC President Dana White has said he plans to run a UFC event on 30th May and it looks he has a headline fight which will provide a big shake up of the UFC’s vaunted welterweight division.

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will take on Brazil’s Gilbert Burns in the night’s main event.

The news was initially confirmed by Burns himself on Twitter after weeks of back-and-forth between him and Woodley.

The match-up was later confirmed by ESPN.

As of writing, the event does not yet have a confirmed location. However, White has said he wants the fight card to be held at the UFC’s Apex facility in Nevada after an extensive stint in Jacksonville, Florida which saw three UFC shows.

Arizona could serve as an alternative destination if Nevada doesn’t authorise sporting events by that date.

Woodley hasn’t in the cage since losing his UFC welterweight crown to Kamaru Usman over a year ago.

Meanwhile, Burns is on a hot streak of fighting form, having racked up five wins in a row – his most recent win coming against two-time UFC title contender Demian Maia.
