UFC featherweight kingpin Max Holloway fell short in his attempt at becoming a two-weight champion at UFC 236 on Saturday.
Holloway lost his interim UFC lightweight title fight against Dustin Poirier by unanimous decision following a wild, back-and-forth war.
The loss saw Hawaiian Holloway’s stellar 13-fight win streak end inside the Octagon.
Following the loss, UFC President Dana White believes Holloway looked undersized compared to Poirier and should return to featherweight.
“It’s crazy. What I didn’t expect is he looked small at 155,” White said at the UFC 236 post-event news conference. “I look forward to him going back to 145.”
It’s unclear who Holloway will face next should he stay at home at featherweight.
Following his loss, Holloway was transported to a local hospital in Atlanta to be assessed, meaning he didn’t get the chance to speak to press and let his thoughts on the fight and his future known.
“We took him straight from the octagon to the hospital,” White said.
“I told my guys, ‘I don’t want him doing any interviews. Take him straight to the hospital.’
“He’s tough, he’s awesome, but I’d like to see him at 145 pounds again. Poirier looked much bigger than him in my opinion.”
