Colby Covington wasn’t best pleased when it was announced that Kamaru Usman would be UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s next challenger.
The former UFC interim welterweight titleholder took to Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show and let rip. When he wasn’t putting UFC President Dana White on blast, he was challenging the promotion to release him.
Providing Covington sticks around and he beats Usman, Woodley would love to fight Covington soon after UFC 235 in early March.
“Obviously the world would like to see me f**k Colby up right quick but I think he’s trying to call shots and he’s not a champ so he can’t really do that,” Woodley told TMZ Sports [H/T MMA Fighting].
“So I’m gonna go out there and fight Kamaru Usman and we’ll see what happens after that. Most likely, I‘ll end up fighting Colby next up.”
Usman will be Woodley’s fourth welterweight title defence and if he’s successful, Woodley is eyeing up a Covington fight in Chicago three months later.
“Yeah, I’ll fight Colby next after that. Probably in June,” Woodley said.
“I think they’ve got a fight in Chicago in June. I’m a Midwest guy. I train in Milwaukee which is an hour and a half from Chicago, St. Louis is not that far, and I think I’ve got strong roots there as well so it would be a good fight to headline on that card.”
