SWITCHED-STANCE COMBINATION


1) Squaring off against Rafael, Wanderlei finds his distance. Notice that Wanderlei starts in an orthodox (right-handed) stance with his left hand and left leg leading.


2) Wanderlei slips outside a searching jab from Rafael. Then he switches base into an unorthodox ‘south paw’ stance with his right leg leading (closer to his opponent). Not only is Wanderlei now off his opponent’s center line, he’s set up for some surprising attacks from the angle he’s created.


3) Wanderlei throws a left from what’s now his rear hand...


4) ...And follows up with a powerful close right from a distinct angle.


5) Still in a switched base, Wanderlei continues the combo with a swinging roundhouse to his opponent’s inside leg, connecting strongly on the thigh with his shin.


6) Wanderlei brings his attacking left leg back and plants it in his orthodox stance. He’s now back at his regular base. He finishes the combo by landing a powerful elbow thrown ‘over the top’ rather than from the side.
