Chan Sung Jung was left devastated following his last-second KO loss to Yair Rodriguez on Saturday at UFC Denver.

“The Korean Zombie” looked set to win a hard-fought decision over five rounds in an entertaining, back-and-forth fight.

However, as the pair embraced in the last 10 seconds of the bout before heading into one final salvo of violence, Rodriguez caught Jung with a counter elbow which rendered him unconscious. The fight was officially waived off at 4:59 of round five – just a second off from the horn being blown, signalling the bout’s end.

Jung took to Facebook to express his disappointment following his unsuccessful comeback fight, having not competed in the cage since early 2017.

Due to a string of injuries and South Korea’s mandatory military service, fan favourite Jung has only fought twice since April 2013.

“I have no excuse. To everyone who has helped me, I’m truly sorry… thank you,” Jung said per MMA Fighting. “To everyone who hates me, congratulations. I am not in a good enough condition to get on a plane so I will spend a few days in the hospital before going back to Korea. I am embarrassed, but I will see you when I get home.”
