Aleksei Oleinik chokes out Mark Hunt in first round

Aleksei Oleinik showed off why he is the most feared submission artist in the UFC’s heavyweight division on Saturday night in the promotion’s first visit to Moscow, Russia.

Mark Hunt was dangerous as ever on the feet, lighting up Oleinik’s lead leg with some thunderous leg kicks. Hunt also appeared to have stiffened Oleinik with a big looping punch, but the Ukraine-born Russian continued to plod forward.

Despite having his mobility hampered thanks to Hunt’s leg work, Oleinik landed a punch which ended up wobbling Hunt. Oleinik then seized that opportunity to drag Hunt down to the ground.

Oleinik quickly moved to take Hunt’s back and soon worked his right arm under the chin of his opponent. As soon as the squeeze was in, Hunt was forced to tap.

A big win for Oleinik, who could well be on his way to earning a heavyweight title shot very soon.

Jan Blachowicz submits Nikita Krylov to ruin his return to the Octagon

The light heavyweight division could do with an injection of life and Nikita Krylov’s karate stylings helps with exactly that. However, Blachowicz didn’t exactly embrace Krylov’s return to the Octagon with welcoming arms.

Poland’s Blachowicz sought to stifle Krylov’s striking with crafty clinchwork and some slick transitions on the ground from the first round to the second.

But in the second, Blachowicz found more success – trapping Krylov with a body scissor on the ground to slip in an arm and take the D’arce choke from on top of his opponent.

This signals Blachowicz’s fourth win on the bounce in the UFC, and he called for a fight with either champion Daniel Cormier or former foe Alexander Gustafsson next.

As for Krylov, we’re sure he’ll be back as his UFC record slides to 6-4.
