It would appear a tremendous main event between Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega has been added to UFC Fight Night 123 in Fresno, California on December 9.

The bout has been mooted for the best part of a week, but was seemingly confirmed by Swanson, a man on the brink of a UFC featherweight title shot, in an Instagram post (below).

Twenty-six-year-old Ortega is undefeated in 13 professional MMA fights and has won four in the UFC to date (another win, a submission of Mike De La Torre on his UFC debut, was later changed to a no contest due to Ortega testing positive for drostanolone). Known for his exciting, unpredictable style, Ortega has developed a knack for outlasting opponents and often finishing them in the third and final round. Last time out he impressively submitted Renato Moicano in round three when appearing to be behind on the scorecards.

Swanson, seven years Ortega’s senior, is 25-7 in his MMA career and is also currently on a rich vein of form. Since losing to Frankie Edgar and Max Holloway, the division’s elite, in back-to-back fights, Swanson has won four in a row and recently defeated Artem Lobov over the five round distance in April.

We await official confirmation. Until then…
