UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has taken to Instagram (below) to offer his thoughts on Saturday’s (August 26) defeat to boxer Floyd Mayweather and suggested an inability to stay relaxed in a longer fight ultimately led to his downfall.
McGregor, despite a fast start and a plucky performance in general, was outclassed for much of the nine-and-a-half rounds he spent in Mayweather’s company, before being stopped on his feet in round ten. It was, in the end, a performance that divided people. Some felt he impressed, showing more boxing ability and toughness than they expected, while others said the mixed martial artist was never really in the contest and that it was only Mayweather’s tendency to start slow and remain on cruise control that created the illusion of it being competitve.
Whatever your belief, there can be no doubt McGregor knows how to take a loss with class and dignity, whether it occurs in a mixed martial arts cage or a boxing ring.
