Get out of a bad position and attack the back with this slick reversal.

Vinny Magalhaes Four-time world BJJ champion, 205lb fighter and instructor at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas reveals his best fight tips with Scott Kaplan

1: Scott has Vinny in the front-headlock position and is controlling his posture by resting his weight on his back.

2: Vinny tucks Scott’s right arm into his body with his left elbow and shoots his right arm under Scott’s legs.

3: Vinny keeps Scott’s arm tucked under his elbow and steps his right leg under and across his body.

4: To stop Scott from following him, Vinny hooks his right leg with his right arm.

5: Vinny bridges up with his hips, which gives him room to manoeuvre and advance his position.

6: Vinny turns his body 180 degrees to the right and steps his left leg around to take control of Scott.

7: Vinny continues to move around Scott’s body until he takes full control of his back with a body lock.

TOP TIPS:

WHITE BELT:

You don’t always need a partner to drill this move. Start on all fours and repeat the sitout movement on both sides.

PURPLE BELT:

Keep a wide base with your arms and your knees if you get caught in the front-headlock position to avoid being rolled over into an anaconda choke.

BLACK BELT:

If your opponent has a particularly strong front headlock, tripod onto your toes before doing this move so you have extra leverage with your sit-out.
