Having fought professionally as both a light-heavyweight and heavyweight, ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans is now on the hunt for his first win as a 185-pound middleweight. The search continues on August 5 at UFC Fight Night 114, it was announced today, when he goes up against Sam Alvey in Mexico City.
Evans, 19-6-1, made his middleweight debut in March, losing a split-decision to Australia’s Daniel Kelly at UFC 209, and is keen to make the weight class his permanent home moving forward. Now 37, the Boca Raton-native was formerly a UFC champion at light-heavyweight, of course, and has been attempting to recapture that kind of form ever since.
Thirty-one-year-old Alvey, meanwhile, has been a middleweight for much of his nine-year professional MMA career and has won seven of eleven fights since joining the UFC in August 2014. Last time out, in April, Alvey, 30-9 (1 NC), dropped a unanimous decision to Brazilian grappler Thales Leites in Nashville, Tennessee.
Both men, therefore, know the importance of victory at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in August.
