Fight fans are sure to be devastated at the sad news that Brock Lesnar’s diverticulitis has flared up again, forcing him to pull out of his bout with opposing TUF coach and heavy-hitter, Junior dos Santos.
Fortunately for Lesnar, “it’s not as serious as last time,” yet does mean he will be forced to take another hiatus from the Octagon.
So what is diverticulitis exactly?
While there are various dietary causes, in Brock’s original case he contracted the bowel disease due to eating too much meat and not enough dietary fiber, also known as ‘roughage.’
Sufferers can be present with left lower quadrant pain, fever and leukocytosis (an elevation of the white cell count in blood tests) and extreme cases can die.
Patients may also complain of nausea or diarrhea, others may be constipated.
It seems that although Brock has changed his diet, the disease has returned and will either have drastic surgery or “deal with it for the rest of my life.”
He further stated that only those who do not have to push themselves to the limit can handle the disease without surgery.
Now only time will tell as to whether Brock will make a full comeback.
As one of the most exciting additions to the UFC, fans will wish him a speedy recovery.
