A simple drill that will get you ready to exchange strikes at speed

1 - Rafael and Fernando are both squared off in orthodox stance.



2 - Rafael launches a hook towards Fernando’s head, but his head is now exposed.



3 - Fernando returns fi re with a left hook and Rafael blocks by bringing his right elbow up.



4 - Because Rafael has shifted his weight to his front foot, Fernando sees an opportunity land a powerful kick.



5 - Fernando goes high with his kick, but Rafael covers with his right arm to absorb the impact.


TOP TIPS

STUDENT

Take turns performing this drill with your partner and build up speed once you’re comfortable with it.

KRU

Raise your elbow as you block your opponent’s hook to ensure the strike doesn’t slip past your guard.

MASTER

The lead hook is a great way to set up your rear kick. Even if you hit your opponent’s guard, their weight will shift towards your kick.
