Former UFC bantamweight champion ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey insists her upcoming fight with Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 will be one of her last as she looks to end her career imminently.
Rousey will challenge current 135lb champion Nunes in the year end blockbuster, UFC 207, which goes down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 30th.
Speaking in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show in the US yesterday, Rousey put out a call to action for those who are interested in watching her compete, to do so soon, because she doesn’t plan on competing in the sport for much longer.
“I’m wrapping it up,” Rousey said. “This is definitely one of my last fights. Everyone better watch because the show isn’t going to be around forever.”
Rousey lost her title to Holly Holm via second round knockout last November at UFC 193 in what ended up becoming one of the most watched head kick knockouts in the sports’ history. Since then she’s been very much out of the spotlight.
It appears, however, that she’s been spending a lot of her time recently training and preparing to reclaim that which she once lost.
“I’ve been training twice a day since the beginning of August,” Rousey said. “I finally feel like I’m in super-ninja good mode.”
Win or lose, yesterday’s announcement has lead some to believe the fight at UFC 207 may in fact be her last and any chance of a superfight with Cris Cyborg may well and truly be just wishful thinking.
Cyborg took to Twitter today and echoed these sentiments, urging the UFC to start promoting her more as she feels she can become a huge pay-per-view star in her own right.
“I told everyone this fight was never going to happen, they can’t force her,” tweeted Cyborg. “Promote cyborg for cyborg and I’ll sell ppv on my own name.”
