As if Angela Lee wasn’t enough to send the Singaporean crowd into raptures – think Stipe Miocic in Cleveland – she had help from another local hero.

Joining her on media duties, and accompanying her to the cage at ONE: Dynasty of Heroes, was the country’s first ever Olympic champion: Rio 2016 100m butterfly champion Joseph Schooling.

That fact alone would be enough to grant the 22-year-old University of Texas student privileged status in his homeland, but beating Michael Phelps in the pool to do it means he is treated like royalty.

His presence just added to the occasion. “As athletes representing Singapore, they see us training, competing and winning. That’s how we’re inspiring the Singaporean people,” Lee says.

However, thanks to a sensational title defense, ‘Unstoppable’ Lee was still the star of the show. Schooling had to settle for being mobbed by the South Korean ring girls.
