In 2016, despite Anthony Johnson pushing for a shot at the 205lb title in New York City, it was Daniel Cormier who said he’ll have to wait.
After earning a rematch with the champion with a KO of Glover Teixeira at UFC 203, ‘Rumble’ demanded ‘DC’ defend his title at the promotion’s first event at Madison Square Garden, saying: “Enough of this waiting game that you or UFC is playing!”
The light heavyweight leader has said Johnson deserves to fight him, but put the brakes on a return to the cage in a response on Twitter. He also promised to stop the number-one contender again at UFC 207.
“U deserve shot. I’m not waiting! Sorry bud NYC won’t happen. But you can get it again Dec 30th. #downgoesrumble,” he posted.

At UFC 210 in 2017, it was Daniel Cormier who came out triumphant in the end.
