After his stunning first round knock out over Muslim Salikhov, Randy Brown already has his sights set on his next opponent.
In a fight in which he received a performance of the night bonus, Brown managed the distance well in the opening couple of minutes, before committing to a huge double jab, backhand which sent Salikhov falling to the canvas.
Speaking on the fight itself, Brown said he knew he had the power and ability to finish his opponent, he just needed to wait for the right time.
I was prepared for a scrap but I knew that if I came in healthy, and I was able to get exactly what I came for, I would be able to get the finish.
Just prior to his post fight interview, Brown was seen speaking to Michael Chiesa. When asked what the discussion was about he revealed that the two of them would like to compete against each other next.
"We are trying to make a deal, we are trying to get it done. He said UFC 300 is a little too soon for him but he wants to do it so if he is a man of his word, which I think he is, hopefully the UFC will come with something and we go to the UFC to work it out, we will see."
Although it is nothing personal, Brown doesn't feel Chiesa competes enough and as he looks to break into the rankings, he feels the match up suits him favourably.
"I just always thought we would be a good matchup for years. These are guys that i was watching when I grew up watching MMA, as an amateur, these are people that I've seen. The Ultimate Fighter and I have got a tonne of respect for him and I just think that you have to defend your ranking. As someone as established in the rankings and a contender, you can't just rest on your morals and this is not a shot to him or anything like that, but I do feel like he doesn't fight as consistent as he should. If I am a contender, coming up looking at these guys, I am like 'Alright, who can I realistically get a matchup with?' and the guys who aren't fighting, you've got to do something to prove that you belong in that spot and I think he's one of the guys that doesn't fight enough so I just locked in on him."
