Only one athlete failed to make weight ahead of UFC 302.
Andre Lima will open the card against Mitch Raposo in a Flyweight contest but the unbeaten Brazilian came in at 130lbs at the first time of asking, a huge four pounds over the 126lbs limit. With Raposo weighing 125lbs, it was down to Lima to get as close to the 126lbs limit as possible. However, the 25 year old did not return to the scales and the bout will now go ahead at a catchweight with Lima forfeiting 30% of his purse.
Both men in the main event tipped the scales at bang on the championship weight. Challenger Dustin Poirier was the first of the pair to the scales, with Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev following closely behind. The bout has all the factors to go down as a classic at 155lbs, with Poirier admitting he feels this is his last chance to claim UFC gold and Makhachev looking to make his third title defense.
Sean Strickland also came in at the championship weight of 185lbs ahead of his middleweight contest against Paulo Costa. Strickland will want to keep himself in the number one contender spot and eye a rematch with the man who took the belt from him, Dricus Du Plessis, in the near future. Costa, who came in at 185lbs has the chance to leapfrog many in the division if he can get his hand raised. The pair will compete over three, five minute rounds in the evening’s co-main event.
All of the other athletes who will feature in the main event also made weight. Both Kevin Holland and Michal Oleksiejczuk came in at 185lbs for their Middleweight clash, Alex Morono and Niko Price tipped the scales at 170lbs as did Randy Brown and Elizeu Zaleski Dos Santos ahead of their respective Welterweight bouts.
