PFL Europe Glasgow just got a lot bigger with the announcement of their main, and co-main, event.
Scottish MMA legend Stevie Ray will return to the Smart Cage in a tasty main event against Lewis Long at 170lbs.
After a spell with Cage Warriors, which saw 'Braveheart' claim the vacant Lightweight title against Curt Warburton at Cage Warriors 69, the Scot then spent four years with the UFC. In his time with the promotion, Ray racked up seven wins with big victories against the likes of Michael Johnson and Joe Lauzon.
Following his win against Johnson, Ray parted ways with the UFC and would take almost three years away from competition, before returning to face Alex Martinez at PFL 1: 2022 Regular Season. After dropping a unanimous decision loss to Martinez, Ray knew he needed to pull something special out of the bag in his next regular season outing which came against none other than Anthony Pettis. In an incredible turn of events, the grappling supremo Ray tied up a second round Modified twister, extremely similar to the one he beat Craig Ewers with a Polaris 18, and secured his place in the semi-finals. In an immediate rematch, Ray faced Pettis once more and beat him to secure his place in the final.
With $1,000,000 on the line, Ray faced Oliver Aubin-Mercier, who ultimately defeated the Scotsman in the second round.
Since then, Ray has picked up two losses to Natan Schulte and Clay Collard.
Lewis Long enters the Smart Cage for the first time on September 28th. The Welshman has not conmpeted on a major platform since 2022 when he was beaten bby Thibault Gouti at Bellator 280.
The 35 year old spent three years with Bellator and amassed a 3-2 promotional record, with most notably, a first round knee bar victory against Gianni Mellilo.
Fans could be in for a grappling masterclass when the two meet in the OVO Hydro.
In the co-main event, Scotland native Robert Whiteford will take on UFC veteran Roger Huerta.
Much like Long, Whiteford spent the most recent part of his career in Bellator gloves and although signing with them in 2019, he only made the walk three times in the space of three years, with a win against Sam Sicilia before a no contest against Andrew Fisher and a loss to Daniel Weichel.
Huerta enters the bout looking for his first win since 2017, when he stopped Hayder Hassan at Pheonix FC 4. Since then, the American MMA veteran has came up short against the likes of Benson Henderson and Patricky Pitbull and finds himself on a four fight losing streak.
