It was quite the eventful weigh in day for PFL Europe, ahead of their second show of the year in Newcastle this Saturday (June 8).
The card will play host to the opening round of both the men's Bantamweight division and the Women's Flyweight division, as well as the final Welterweight division opening round bout.
UK MMA veteran Dean Garnett has received an walkthrough to the next round following the withdrawal of Ayton De Paepe, who failed to make weight coming in at 137.5lbs ahead of their Bantamweight bout. Taking to social media, Garnett said:
"My opponent was overweight, and decided he wanted to go to the hospital. Whatever I said to him yesterday must have scared him off. He flapped it in my opinion. He was 700g over and could have still fought with a point deduction and a fine but took the easy way out. I wanted to fight.
"However, I move onto the semi-finals regardless. This was no fault of mine or @pfleurope. Can't thank the team at PFL and @danhardymma enough for their support and how they've handled this tricky situation. Apologise to anyone who bought tickets or has been inconvenienced."
Dee Bagley was the only other athlete to miss weight, tipping the scales at 130.5lbs for her contest against Paulina Wiśniewska. The bout will still go ahead but Bagley will forfeit a portion of her purse, as well as being deducted a point from the judges score card, should the fight go to the decision.
Savannah Marshall looked extremely comfortable when she came in at 160.8lbs ahead of her contract weight bout against the Brazilian Mirela Vargas, who was the lighter of the two weighing 158.7lbs.
Two of the most charismatic athletes on the PFL roster, Dylan Tuke and Kane Mousah, both made weight ahead of their Lightweight bout. Coming in at 155.7lbs and 155.5lbs, respectively.
All other athletes who will compete in the respective tournaments made their weights well and the fight night in Newcastle will progress with 14 bouts.
