Fabian Edwards will get a second chance to get his hands on Bellator gold as he takes on Johnny Eblen at Bellator Champions Series: London.
The highly anticipated rematch will take place at the OVO Arena, Wembley on Saturday September 14, in what will mark the promotion’s eighth fight night in London, with tickets going on sale this Thursday (June 20).
Their first contest was a close affair for as long as it lasted, with both men finding success. Edwards anti-wrestling led to the contest mainly playing out and Edwards opened a huge cut over the eye of Eblen when he landed a huge elbow in the second round. Eblen became the first man to stop Edwards, when he landed a big right hand on the chin of the Birmingham man just 10 seconds into the third round, which sent Edwards crashing to the mat. Eblen followed up with a flurry of strikes and the referee stepped in and waved the contest over.
Both men have competed once since their initial match up, with Edwards all but securing his second shot at the title when he beat Aaron Jeffery at Bellator Champions Series: Belfast. After a slow start which saw Edwards dropped the first round, the Middleweight built his way into the bout and ultimately took the second and third round to walk away with a unanimous decision win.
In his last outing, Eblen was pushed further than he has ever been before when he came up against 2023 PFL Season Champion Impa Kasanganay on the PFL vs. Bellator: CHAMPS card. An extremely close opening first round left the judges split but the unbeaten Eblen had done enough on two of the three judges scorecards to take the split decision win and continue his impressive run.
Taking to social media following the announcement, Edwards kept his statement short and sweet. He said:
“They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
“September 14th live at @ovoarena I will take what’s mine”
At the time of writing, the Middleweight title fight is the only contest confirmed for the card, with more announcements expected in the coming days.
