No doubting 2019’s biggest talking point to date, after Jorge Masvidal’s five-second knockout of the previously undefeated Ben Askren at UFC 239 which went viral on social media in a manner not seen since Jose Aldo’s rapid-fire defeat by Conor McGregor.
Given the level of trash talk which preceded this bout, many have wondered if Askren can ever recover from it. That’s for the future, but Askren remains unrepentant, telling Ariel Helwani that he still considers his conqueror a “douche”. The victor’s celebration was seen as in bad taste by some, but after all the build-up, it was understandable. KO of the Year? It will take something special to beat it.
