Colby Covington’s antics; Cris Cyborg getting dropped; GSP staying retired; fantasy MMA lunch club and good bets for WWE from four top pros

The Fighters

Phil De Fries English heavyweight, 33, formerly with UFC, currently KSW champion

Neil Grove Much-travelled veteran heavyweight, 48, who has fought in UFC and Bellator

TJ Jones Bellator heavyweight and fan favorite, 29

David Rickels Bellator lightweight (21-5). Holds record for most Bellator bouts (22)

1 Colby Covington picked up a dominant decision win over Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN at 5. He’s achieving great things in the cage but what are your thoughts on his antics outside it?

De Fries

A He’s going down the ‘no such thing as bad attention’ path and I think he definitely oversteps the mark at times but he’s getting what he wanted – more eyes and I bet more money, too.

Grove

A There’s no doubt he has talent, but I don’t like how he promotes his fights. I’ve never liked trash talking. Hence why people like GSP, Lyoto Machida, Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko will be seen as the goats of MMA, and the others will fade away.

Jones

A Love him or hate him, as long as the fans are reacting to him, he’s doing his job. If these fighters he fights have a problem with it, make like Jorge Masvidal and order him up a three piece. Until then, watch Colby keep cashing them checks.

Rickels

A Man, it’s not my shtick personally. It seems pretty forced but I commend anyone giving the extra effort to play the entertainment card.

2 Cris Cyborg’s UFC career came to an abrupt end. Is it a mistake for the company to let her go?

De Fries

A They should have tried harder to keep her. She’s the second best in the world. Editing that video was a bad idea however.

Grove

A What I’ve heard is she wants to fine pick who she wants to fight. She didn’t want a rematch, because she knows she’d get beaten again. Nothing against Bellator, but I think it’s time she moves on.

Jones

A I think Cyborg not getting the second Nunes fight is a real shame. I can’t see Cyborg as a legit world champion until she fights Nunes again. But the whole situation is too much ‘he said she said’ to be able to give a fair opinion on the matter.

Rickels

A Well, she will have options elsewhere for sure but I believe if I was Cyborg I may have gotten an offer from another company before going free agent. Gotta play the money game.

3 GSP has seemingly closed the door permanently on a return to MMA action. Are you in agreement with his choice?

De Fries

A It’s good to see GSP walk away, as he has cemented his legacy and is possibly the best to ever do it. A fight with Khabib would be profitable for him but I feel a prime Khabib would be too much.

Grove

A GSP has fought the best when he was in his prime. I still think a fight with Conor would’ve been fun to watch and a big payout, but why should he fight? He left while at his best. While others, myself included, kept on when it really was time to quit.

Jones

A I can’t stand GSP (strictly from a fan’s perspective) I always felt his style was so boring and frustrating. Vacating the middleweight title just seemed pointless, so that being said, I personally hope he stays retired. From a fighter’s perspective he’s clearly one of the greatest ever.

Rickels

A Hell yeah. Good for him. If he feels done he should be. He’s a gangster. He beat everyone up and bailed. Good strategy.

4 An image is making the rounds online of a cartoonish cafeteria lunch room with various fighters at each table. Which three MMA cool kids would you want at your lunch table?

De Fries

A I’ve seen it! I would probably sit by myself and they would all throw mashed potato at me.

Grove

A Kids? I’d actually love GSP, Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar at the table.

Slap Brock and enjoy lunch.

Jones

A Number one is Tank Abbott, my favorite fighter of all time. Number two is MVP. I had a long talk with him during my Bellator 221 time. The guy was just cool as heck to talk to. Number 3. Chuck Liddell, my second favorite fighter of all time.

Rickels

A Genki Sudo, Mirko Cro Cop and Fedor.

5.Cain Velasquez recently made his debut in professional wrestling. Who else would be a good pro wrestler when their fighting career is over?

De Fries

A Conor, I imagine, will do it. It would be good to see Vince vs. Dana, too.

Grove

A Good on him. He could finally make some good money with his talent!

Not too sure about who else. I’ve never watched any WWE to be honest. Not my cup of tea, although I did like the wrestling movie, Fighting with My Family.

Jones

A Chael Sonnen. The promos he’d cut would be “The Rock” worthy. His charm and charisma alone would make him a fan favorite.

Rickels

A Ninja, please. We know damn well this was a loaded question...of course, me!
