UFC Fight Night Boston was an emotional experience for one fighter in particular as he paid tribute to a friend.

Every picture tells a story, they say, but few carry as much meaning as this one. The gloved hand belongs to UFC bantamweight, Randy Costa and the photo he is showing is of his late friend, Devin Carrier, killed in a car crash in 2016. Costa carries the picture with him everywhere during Fight Week as an acknowledgment that it was Carrier who encouraged him to keep going with the sport when he himself had considered his fighting days over. Following his friend’s death, Costa finally took his advice and recorded four straight KO wins with Cage Titans prior to his call-up to the UFC. Though he lost on debut, Costa notched his first UFC win in front of his hometown crowd in Boston on Friday 18 October by KO’ing his opponent, Boston Salmon. A fitting tribute to his friend.
