Get up off your ass and make sure your opponent’s in trouble with this reversal
Ricky Lundell
The BJJ black belt and NCAA Division I wrestling prodigy presents his MMA wall-work masterclass with Dan Hardy
1 Dan has double-leg control on Ricky, who is sat up with his back against the wall.
2 Ricky locks his hands around Dan and puts all his weight on his head by leaning to his left.
3 After walking his legs away from Dan, Ricky hooks his left foot on the outside of Dan’s leg.
4 Ricky bridges onto his right foot and kicks out with his left foot, forcing Dan onto his hips
5 To break Dan’s grip, Ricky kicks his left leg back hard and sprawls his hips forward.
6 Ricky pops up to his feet, pulls Dan’s arm with his left hand and blocks his hip with his right hand.
7 Ricky clears his knee past Dan’s arm to prevent him from catching his legs again.
8 Ricky grabs Dan’s legs and drives forward into side control to establish a dominant position.
TOP TIPS
WHITE BELT
Clearing your opponent’s legs once you’ve reversed position is essential so you don’t get stuck in guard.
PURPLE BELT
Keep your head above your opponent’s when
you try to stand up from the cage to stop them punching you in the face.
BLACK BELT
If you’re in top position in step 1, pinch your opponent’s knees together with your legs to limit his options for escape.
