Use a constricting stocks takedown to put your opponent in a place to finish the fight
Ricky Lundell
The BJJ black belt and NCAA Division I wrestling prodigy presents his MMA wall-work masterclass with Dan Hardy
1 - Ricky has Dan pressed against the wall with a left-arm underhook and strong head position.
2 - Ricky pushes Dan’s head away with his right hand.
3 - In an attempt to escape, Dan rolls his head under Ricky’s arm.
4 - Ricky shoots his right arm underneath Dan’s left arm and joins his hands together with an S-grip. This is known as the stocks position.
5 - With Dan’s head now completely exposed and arms isolated, Ricky starts to throw knee strikes
6 - Pivoting to his right, Ricky begins to pull Dan to the mat.
7 - Ricky finishes in top position.
TOP TIPS
WHITE BELT
Keep your elbows pinched when in the stocks position for maximum pressure on your opponent.
PURPLE BELT
Throwing short elbows in the position shown in step two will also force a reaction from your opponent.
BLACK BELT
Keeping the underhook as you hit the mat gives you the option to pull your opponent on to his side and spin for an armbar.
RICKY SAYS
“Stocks is a very powerful position. If you guys get it down, you can end fights very quickly.”
