Give your attacker the runaround and put them down with a sneaky takedown reversal

Ricky Lundell

The BJJ black belt and NCAA Division I wrestling prodigy presents his MMA wall-work masterclass with Dan Hardy

1 - Dan has a double-leg on Ricky against the wall.

2 - Ricky can’t sprawl, so he pushes Dan’s head down.

3 - As he maintains pressure with his left hand, Ricky turns into Dan and lays his hip on top of his head.

4 - Hooking the back of Dan’s knee with his left arm, Ricky begins to bring drive his forehead towards Dan’s hip.

5 - Ricky crosses his legs by stepping his right leg behind his left, which breaks Dan’s grip. He then continues to step around with his left leg.

6 - Keeping his weight on Dan, Ricky continues to turn the corner, which forces Dan to post on his right hand.

7 - Ricky turns the tables by placing his right knee on the mat and shooting his right arm through to Dan’s far hip.

8 - He then drives into Dan, breaking his base by grabbing his left ankle and pulling it toward him to dump him onto the mat.

TOP TIPS

WHITE BELT

You have a limited time to work when you’re pressed to the cage, so start this escape as soon as your back hits the fence.

PURPLE BELT

A great time to shoot for a takedown is after your opponent’s failed takedown attempt, as he is likely to be off-balance.

BLACK BELT

Once you’re in control (step 8), you can bait your opponent into giving you their back. Allow them to pop up to their knees, then insert your hooks and attack their neck.
