Issue 138

February 2016

Following his 13-second KO of José Aldo at featherweight, Conor McGregor has plenty of options in 2016, so we ask Planet MMA…

Yes

Rafael Dos Anjos

Current UFC Lightweight champion

I hope he does decide to move up as I want to teach him some respect. If he does indeed decide he wants to move up, and wants to fight for the title, then I would happily oblige him.

If he thinks he can win the lightweight belt so easily, well, we will see. I’d love to welcome him to the division. He talks too much, and it’s not the Brazilian way. It’s not really the way of any martial artist I know. When you first walk into any gym you are taught to respect everybody. He has none.

Honestly, it doesn’t make sense in my mind for him to move up, as he could get hurt. He will get hurt. But if he does, then this is my division, and I will be waiting for him. He was not a fighter on my radar last year. But after he defeated Aldo I want to put the record straight for my country. All of Brazil will be behind me to silence him once and for all.

Frankie Edgar

Leading featherweight title contender

Why would he move up when he has unfinished business at 145lb? In the summer he had a choice of who to face when Aldo pulled out initially, and he chose Chad (Mendes). Now he’s talking about fighting someone else again. He’s scared of me. If not, let’s make this happen.

I’d love to fight McGregor at Madison Square Garden (the UFC as reserved the venue for April, pending a court battle). That would be everything. I think he’s perfect for it. After all, there’s a lot of Irish in New York.

But he’ll probably run to 155lb. I believe deep down he knows that I’m his kryptonite. You saw what Chad did with him on 15 days’ notice. And Chad’s not one to stay in the gym at all. I’m kind of in the gym a lot. You give me a good camp and ample time to prepare for him, I’m the guy to beat McGregor.
