April 2016

We have a soft spot in our hearts for a happily-ever-after story at Planet MMA. Portuguese speakers might have noticed Francimar Barroso propose to his girlfriend, Milenna Tonnera – into the camera – after his victory at UFC Fight Night 81. But she wasn’t cageside to answer, so ‘Bodao’ was left hanging. However, he has revealed she said yes later that night. The couple plans to tie the knot and make a “little Bodao” together soon. UFC fighters have a 100% success rate for proposals in the Octagon. Benson Henderson also popped the question to his now-wife, Maria, at UFC on Fox 7.

Calgary, Canada: Left out in the cold

You’ve got to feel for the fighters scheduled to compete at Z Promotions’ Fight Night: Calgary event. First, the card was canceled on the day of the show. Then, they claim that they found their hotel rooms had been canceled too, so they were left out in the freezing January Cowtown cold. Not ideal for UFC veteran Marcus Brimage, who’s more used to the Florida sun. Brr!

Stockholm, Sweden: Fight, bake, rave, repeat

Scandinavian DJ Steve Angello kicked off 2016 with a new cut, The Ocean. What has this got to do with MMA you ask? Moscow, Russia: Leaving California

Despite being handed a three-year suspension from fighting last year, former Bellator champ Alexander Shlemenko got his promoter’s permission to fight for M-1 Challenge in his home country. He’s still planning to sue the California State Athletic Commission too. How’s that for a two-fingered salute to the Sunshine State?

Albuquerque, USA: Say cheese!

There can’t be a much worse time to get your photo taken than a few days after fighting Robbie Lawler for five rounds. But that’s what Carlos Condit had to do for his new driver’s license. Now he’s got a permanent record of his banged-up mush he has to carry around everywhere he goes.
