Prodigy ready to return

UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn is plotting a return to the Octagon – backed this time by Jackson-Wink MMA, which has plans for his return. Sources close to ‘The Prodigy’ revealed he’s fired up to fight again after almost two years away. The 37-year-old former two-weight champion called out Nik Lentz and ‘The Carny’ responded by demanding a grudge match at 155lb.

RDA makes own demands

Despite reports claiming confirmation of UFC 197 was delayed by Conor McGregor’s wage demands, veteran MMA journalist Dave Meltzer reported it was dance partner and 155lb champ Rafael dos Anjos who held up negotiations. The delay was believed to have caused the organization to miss an opportunity to announce the fight during the NFL playoffs.

Holm-Rousey 2 no-go at UFC 200

Shooting delays for the remake of the movie Road House mean Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey will not take place at UFC 200. ‘Rowdy’ is set to take on the lead role in the action flick and UFC president Dana White said she now won’t have time to prepare for the July 9th date. Of course, Miesha Tate gets first crack at the new champion in March anyway.

New weights coming in 2016?

The number of weight classes in mixed martial arts could grow by as much as 30% if proposals by the California State Athletic Commissions’ weight-cutting summit are imposed. The Unified Rules of MMA presently has nine divisions, but that could rise to 13 in August: 115, 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 195, 205, 225, 265 and 265lb+.
