Former UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves is dropping down to lightweight for his next bout. According to a report on UFC Tonight, the 31-year-old Brazilian is hoping to make his 155lb debut in December. Alves, who has been plagued by injury in recent years, was TKO’d by Carlos Condit in his last outing in May.

Shields wants Lawler rematch

Despite fighting for World Series of Fighting, Jake Shields believes he could defeat UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in a rematch. “Of course I think I’d beat him again. I mean, it would be a tough fight. I think he has improved a lot but I think I have as well,” says Shields.

Despite being considered to co-headline UFC 191, Alistair Overeem has decided to wait to fight so he can finally face former champion Junior dos Santos. The two were originally set to square off in 2012, but the Dutch striker failed a pre-fight drug test. They are now likely to face each other once the Brazilian returns from injury.
