Stuff your opponent’s attempt to escape and finish them off with this D’arce choke from half guard
Vinny Magalhaes with Casey Milliken
Four-time world BJJ champion, 205lb fighter and instructor at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas
1 - Vinny is in Casey’s half guard with an underhook on his right side.
2 - Vinny takes a whizzer on Casey’s own underhook...
3 - And works his hand through to Casey’s neck.
4 - Vinny turns onto his right shoulder. He drives his arm under Casey’s armpit and pulls Casey’s head into his stomach so he can get as far through as possible.
5 - Vinny locks in the D’arce choke by grabbing his left bicep with his right hand. He
climbs his left hand up Casey’s back to tighten it.
6 - Vinny sprawls his hips to avoid being swept and nips his elbows together to finish the choke.
VINNY SAYS
“This is a great move for when you opponent has decent control from the bottom, working with an underhook. You can take advantage of that underhook and go for your own submission. The good thing about this move is you don’t have to pass your opponent’s guard or go for any other position but the half guard
PRO TIP
You’ll want to neutralize an opponent who has an underhook in half guard quickly, because it’s a good position for them to start working for a sweep, an escape or to take your back.
