The UFC’s most popular Brazilian Octagon Girl, Jhenny Andrade, struts her stuff

Q: How does it feel to finally be feature in Fighters Only?

A: I am so flattered; I can’t actually believe I am doing an interview with the most respected MMA magazine in world. I read Fighters Only all the time. It shows my work is being recognized and around the world. It is something I will keep in my scrapbook and remember with a lot of pride.

Q: How did you become a part of the UFC?

A: I got a call to try out for the Octagon Girl job, I went and auditioned along with thousands of other girls – all beautiful and with perfect bodies – in Sao Paulo. I passed to the second phase in Rio just before UFC 163 and was called to work at that event. I was so happy. The main event featured my idol, José Aldo, against the ‘The Korean Zombie’ (Chan Sung Jung). What a feeling.

Q: What was it like to step into the Octagon for the first time?

A: It is impossible to explain, especially because it was a title-bout card and one of the most important events I have ever worked at. I was already a fan of José Aldo and working in Rio is always something special, it is one of the most exciting cities I have worked in and my heart just beats faster when I’m there.

Q: Which is your favorite fight city?

A: I feel special energy from the crowd is Las Vegas. I always meet hundreds of fans in the hotel lobby and they all have cards and photos to sign. They want to take photos, even kids who just want a hug. That is so special. I go out I meet fans from all over the world and they all tell me how they watch me and follow me on social media. Las Vegas is the heart of MMA and I hope I get to go there more.

Q: What did it mean to be nominated for ‘Ringcard Girl of the Year’ at last year’s World MMA Awards?

A: It was a huge surprise and a gift. I never thought I would get there as I am from Brazil and all the ring girls from the US are absolutely gorgeous. The feeling of being among the five best ring girls alone made me very happy.

Q: How would you feel if you won the fans’ vote for this year?

A: I am working hard to please the fans because I love what I do and enjoy it, so if they choose me as the best ring girl in the world then, wow, that would be a dream come true.
