Fight camp fuel from inside the ice-boxes of champions. The photogenic UFC welterweight and model raids his son’s snacks for his fight-camp sugar fix.
Q. Name the leading five must-haves in your ice-box?
A. “Almond milk, water, orange juice, some meat, fruits and veggies. I rarely let my wife buy butter. You won’t find any sodas in our house either.
Q. What do you gorge on?”
A. “Chewy chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter and Trader Joe’s cookie butter.”
Q. What do you cheat with?
A. “When I’m on camp I don’t buy bad food. I have to eat my son’s cookies and animal crackers to cheat.”
Q. Do you keep anything other than frozen peas in your freezer?
A. “In my freezer you’ll always find some coffee, waffles, ice cream (for the wife, I’m not a huge ice cream guy), frozen meats and ice bags for the injuries.”
Q. What is your favorite bottled sauce?
A. “When I lived back home in Louisiana it was Tabasco. Now I put BBQ sauce on everything!”
Q. What dessert do you enjoy?
A. “Soft chewy chocolate chip cookies will always be my top dessert food.”
Q. What’s your favorite meal during fight camp?
A. “During fight camp I eat a lot of salmon and quinoa. It’s super tasty and good for you.”
Q. What meal do you eat after the weigh-in?
A. “I like to eat a couple fresh avocados after weigh-in, then carb up with some pasta.”
Q. What food do you look forward to most after a fight?
“Man, after a fight it’s just whatever I can get my hands on. It’s such a yo-yo diet before and after fights that you don’t have any normal eating habits for at least a week after. I eat everything at all hours!”
Q. Which nationality of food is your favorite?
A. “I love my Cajun food. Boiled crawfish are hard to beat. I also have a love for Thai food since my wife is Thai. We eat in Thai town once or twice a week.”
Q. Anything in there inedible?
A. “Although our household is Cajun and Thai, I don’t eat or allow my wife to eat much garlic. I can’t stand the smell when it’s on your breath or if you’re rolling with someone at the gym who pigged out the night before.”
