LIGHTER THE BETTER
I know a lot of attention has been put on the UFC’s welterweight division recently, especially after GSP’s hiatus seemed to make everything just a little more interesting at 170lb.
As impressive as Robbie Lawler, Johny Hendricks and the rest of the division have been, I’d like to see a lot more love shown to the UFC’s lightweight division.
Firstly, the 155lb champion Anthony Pettis might be the most dynamic finisher in all of MMA. His guillotine choke finish of Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181 was absolutely outstanding and I’m thoroughly looking forward to his March scrap against Rafael dos Anjos, barring any potential injuries.
He’s also got a murderers’ row of contenders lining up to challenge him and I want to see every single one of them fight at some point.
Donald Cerrone has been on a crazy run of wins since 2013, Khabib Nurmagomedov was mauling anyone willing to fight him before he suffered a knee injury and even fighters coming off a loss like Benson Henderson and Melendez can still fight their way back to title contention.
The best part about the division is that I’m only scratching the surface in terms of the talent that fights in the weight class. For me, lightweight is where it’s at.
