Fight camp fuel from inside the ice boxes of champions

The Bellator featherweight’s got a heavyweight liking for honey

Name the leading five must-haves in your ice-box.

“Chicken, eggs, salad, almond milk and usually some Gatorade.”

What do you gorge on?

“Peanut butter and honey. I try to stay healthy but when you start eating half the jar it’s not so good for you anymore.”

What do you cheat with?

“Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter: it’s a chocolate spread you can mix up with peanut butter. I chop up apples, throw some honey on it and throw some hazelnut in there and mix it all together. It gets rid of the craving.”

Do you keep anything other than frozen peas in your freezer?

“All the fresh meat, fish, chicken, fruits and lots of ice. I have plenty of injuries so we need ice.”

What is your favorite bottled sauce?

“Oh yeah, definitely A1 Steak sauce. It can’t be beaten.”

What dessert do you enjoy?

“Any type of cheesecake. You can’t go wrong with that.”

What is your own signature dish?

“As I’m talking right now I’ve got some chicken and sweet potatoes on the grill, so I’ll go with that. I’m looking at it right now and I’m going to eat it as soon as we’re done with this interview.”

What is your favorite meal during fight camp?

“Oatmeal with hazelnut spread peanut butter and fresh berries mixed together with honey on top. I really like honey.”

What meal do you eat after the weigh-in?

“Water, believe it or not! I’m drinking water right away. Plus, Gatorade and a can of Coke to get some sugars; and I love the taste of them.”

What food do you look forward to most after a fight?

“Any type of Italian. I love pasta but generally pizza. After the fights and the press conference it’s usually gone 11pm so the only places open are pizza joints. We usually find ourselves going there and celebrating.”

Anything in your fridge that’s inedible?

“Probably some leftover rice or chicken that has been sitting in there. A lot of the time it gets pushed to the back of the fridge and I find it a few weeks later.”
