Issue 119

September 2014

Greg Jackson is the most sought-after trainer in MMA. Each issue he and acclaimed coaching partner Mike Winkeljohn mix up your martial arts skills

1 Greg (right) and Mike square off. Mike stands ready in an orthodox stance – left leg forward.

2 Greg fires a jab toward Mike to draw Mike’s hands up high in an effort to protect his face. Greg wants Mike’s hands busy to help him close the distance.

3 Greg pivots on his left foot, landing a right leg kick onto Mike’s left leg. But instead of replacing his right foot behind him, Greg puts it on the mat past Mike’s lead leg and drops for a single-leg, locking his hands on top of one another behind Mike’s knee.

4 Greg raises Mike’s left leg between his own. Although Mike attempts to create distance, from here Greg can either drive on to complete the takedown, or squeeze his legs together and turn to his right, unbalancing Mike and taking him to the mat.
