BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
A four-time World Jiu-Jitsu Championships gold medal winner, five-fight UFC vet Vinny Magalhaes was M-1 Global 205lb champion. He shares his best submission moves
1. Vinny starts off in De La Riva guard. He’s on his back, with Scott stood above him, right leg forward. Vinny’s left leg is wrapped outside then inside Scott’s right thigh, with his right foot on Scott’s left thigh. Vinny is gripping Scott’s left sleeve with his right hand, and Scott’s right ankle with his left hand. Scott’s right hand is holding Vinny’s left leg.
2. Vinny pulls Scott toward him by drawing his own left leg toward himself and tugging on Scott’s sleeve.
3. Vinny pushes Scott’s left leg up and away with his right foot, and simultaneously uses the momentum to sit up.
4. Letting go of Scott’s right ankle, Vinny feeds his left arm under Scott’s left leg and takes control of Scott’s left sleeve with his left hand.
5. To stop Scott pressuring Vinny to his back, Vinny posts behind on his right hand. If Scott does try, Vinny can just scoot backwards.
6. Posting his weight on his right hand and left foot, Vinny looks to stand up. As he does so, he hooks behind Scott’s right leg with his own right leg. And while he’s placing his right foot down behind himself to stand up, Vinny hooks his left arm under Scott’s right leg and controls it between his thighs.
7. From here, Vinny grabs Scott’s lapel at the neck with his right hand and swings his left leg around and inside Scott’s hooked right leg.
8. Vinny then bumps Scott’s left leg with his right knee as he lifts and twists with his arms to dump Scott to the mat.
